ASTROWORLD is Travis Scott’s third studio album, following his 2016 release Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight. The album is titled after Six Flags Astroworld, a popular Houston amusement park. The park was demolished in 2005. Despite several developers staking claims to develop the large vacant lot into use, nothing has been done with the space since. In a 2017 interview with GQ, Travis lamented on the park’s prominence in Houston and its impact on the album:

That’s what it’s going to sound like, like taking an amusement park away from kids. We want it back. We want the building back. That’s why I’m doing it. It took the fun out of the city.

Travis initially confirmed the title in a May 2016 show, stating that it would follow BITTSM. Almost two years later, he released a promotional single for the album – “Watch,” – which features guest vocals from Lil Uzi Vert and Kanye West. However, the song did not make the album, with his platinum single “Butterfly Effect” appearing instead.

Frank Ocean

01.08.2018

Frank Ocean is an American singer, songwriter, rapper, record producer and photographer.

Background information:

Birth name – Christopher Edwin Breaux
Born – October 28, 1987 (age 30)
Genres – R&B, avant-garde, pop
Awards – Grammy Award for Best Urban Contemporary Album (2013), Grammy Award for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration (2013)

Christopher Francis Ocean, also known as Frank Ocean grew up in New Orleans, but moved to Los Angeles in his late teens to pursue a career in music. Ocean started out ghostwriting tracks for such pop stars as Justin Bieber and Beyoncé, but soon achieved fame as an artist when, in 2011, he released a mixtape of his own music, titled nostalgia, ULTRA. His next effort, channel ORANGE, was unveiled in 2012 to both critical and popular acclaim, and he followed with the back-to-back releases of Endless and Blonde in 2016.

Known for his idiosyncratic musical style, Ocean first embarked on a career as a ghostwriter, and in 2010 he became a member of hip hop collective Odd Future.

On February 18, 2011, Ocean released his first mixtape, Nostalgia, Ultra, to critical acclaim. The mixtape focuses on interpersonal relationships, personal reflection and social commentary.

In 2012, Ocean released his debut studio album Channel Orange to universal acclaim from critics, who later named it the best album of the year in the HMV’s Poll of Polls. It also earned Ocean six Grammy Award nominations and was credited by some writers for moving the R&B genre in a different, more challenging direction. Considered as Ocean’s first commercial release on a traditional record label, Channel Orange featured unconventional songs that were noted for their storytelling and social commentary, and a dense musical fusion that drew on hip hop, soul, and R&B. Funk and electric music also influenced his album. The songs about unrequited love in particular received the most attention, partly because of Ocean’s announcement prior to the album’s release, when he revealed that his first love was a man.

On August 19, Frank unveiled the video album Endless, which was released specifically for Apple Music and was the last album of the artist under the direction of the label Def Jam Recordings.

The day after the release of Endless, on August 20, Ocean presented its second studio album, Blonde, which originally was to be released under the name Boys Do not Cry. The album had several delays and was the subject of wide expectations among media publications.  The album contains guest couplets of such artists as Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, Yung Lean, André 3000, Sebastian, James Blake and Kim Burrell. Pharrell Williams, Tyler, The Creator, Jamie xx and many others worked on the technical stage of the project. The album received high reviews from music critics and won first place in the Billboard 200 music chart.

On February 14, 2018, Ocean released “Moon River”, a cover of the song performed by Audrey Hepburn in the 1961 film, Breakfast at Tiffany’s. In May 2018, Ocean was featured on the tracks “Brotha Man” and “Purity” from ASAP Rocky’s third studio album Testing.

About the album : the debut album of Johnny Cash which included 4 best sellers : «I Walk the Line», «Cry! Cry! Cry!», «So Doggone Lonesome» и «Folsom Prison Blues».

Reasons to listen : the album includes 4 the most famous timeless songs of Johnny Cash, which made him world famous. «Cry! Cry! Cry!» was one of favourite Elvis Presley songs. This album is very catchy and real. Johnny Cash wrote songs about his true feelings. For example, «Folsom Prison Blues» was one the best signature songs of the singer. “Cash was inspired to write this song after seeing the movie Inside the Walls of Folsom Prison (1951) while serving in West Germany in the United States Air Force at Landsberg, Bavaria (itself the location of a famous prison). Cash recounted how he came up with the line “But I shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die”: “I sat with my pen in my hand, trying to think up the worst reason a person could have for killing another person, and that’s what came to mind.” /Anedotage.com Archived May 24, 2011, at the Wayback Machine/ The song was recorded at the Sun Studio in Memphis, Tennessee on July 30, 1955. The producer was Sam Phillips, and the musicians were Cash (vocals, guitar), Luther Perkins (guitar), and Marshall Grant (bass).[9] The song was released as a single with another song recorded at the same session, “So Doggone Lonesome”. Early in 1956, both sides reached #4 on the Billboard C&W Best Sellers chart.
