About the name : ‘LANY’ is an acronym for ‘Los Angeles New York’. Klein addressed the name in an interview:

“We knew we wanted a four-letter word because of design and aesthetic purposes, but as you can imagine, all the four-letter words in the entire world are taken. We moved to acronyms and for a while we thought we would be TTYL, but then we decided we didn’t want to be 13 for the rest of our lives. I eventually thought of the span across the country from L.A. to New York, and at first I was thinking it would be L-A-N-Y, but people kept getting confused on how to pronounce it when I told them, saying things like ‘L-A-and-Y?’ So then we’re like forget it—let’s call ourselves LANY, pronounced Lay-Nee.”

About the band : LANY is an American three-piece alternative band from Los Angeles, California, United States. LANY was formed in March 2014 by Paul Klein, Jake Goss and Les Priest. The following month they uploaded two songs, “Hot Lights” and “Walk Away”, to SoundCloud incognito in order to differentiate between their old and new projects. In 2015, LANY embarked on American tours supporting Twin Shadow, Tove Styrke, X Ambassadors, Troye Sivan and Halsey.  They also took part in festivals Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Firefly and Outside Lands. LANY began their second headline tour in the fall of 2016 called the “Kinda Tour”. It included 14 European dates and 37 US dates.

About the performers: The group was formed in Izhevsk (Russia) in the end of 80's; and the name literally means "The Noise of Bamboo at 11 O'Clock". At the very beginning the group was formed by 3 members: Nikolay Noskov, Vasiliy Agafonov and Kostya Bagaev who were "collecting" different noises and sounds but afert buying a Polyvox (synthesizer) and inviting Tanya Erokhina with her lively and trance-like voice they started creating electonic music. Their target was to set up the atmosphere using nothing specific about what you'd be able to tell with words. Lyrics and aesthetics of the group were influenced by authors like Kafka, Cortazar and Kobo Abe. As there was no ability for the members to get a sampler tracks were recorded with the help of three consecutively connected tape recordes which were playing different noises and beats; thus, their album was made.
Reasons to listen: The work was quite unusual for those times and music tastes and it didn't lose its atmosphere and hypnotic charm until nowadays. The mood and rythmics of the tracks anticipated the arrival of such modern and full-fledged genres as trip-hop and ambient.

About the album : the debut album of Johnny Cash which included 4 best sellers : «I Walk the Line», «Cry! Cry! Cry!», «So Doggone Lonesome» и «Folsom Prison Blues».

Reasons to listen : the album includes 4 the most famous timeless songs of Johnny Cash, which made him world famous. «Cry! Cry! Cry!» was one of favourite Elvis Presley songs. This album is very catchy and real. Johnny Cash wrote songs about his true feelings. For example, «Folsom Prison Blues» was one the best signature songs of the singer. “Cash was inspired to write this song after seeing the movie Inside the Walls of Folsom Prison (1951) while serving in West Germany in the United States Air Force at Landsberg, Bavaria (itself the location of a famous prison). Cash recounted how he came up with the line “But I shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die”: “I sat with my pen in my hand, trying to think up the worst reason a person could have for killing another person, and that’s what came to mind.” / Archived May 24, 2011, at the Wayback Machine/ The song was recorded at the Sun Studio in Memphis, Tennessee on July 30, 1955. The producer was Sam Phillips, and the musicians were Cash (vocals, guitar), Luther Perkins (guitar), and Marshall Grant (bass).[9] The song was released as a single with another song recorded at the same session, “So Doggone Lonesome”. Early in 1956, both sides reached #4 on the Billboard C&W Best Sellers chart.

VD choice : one of our favourite songs from the album is «I Walk the Line». It touches hearts and inspires. The lyrics can be attached to any life story. If you are excited enough, you can find a lot of covers on Johnny Cash on YouTube.
